It's been a while since I have been to WDW- I think it was 1999 the last time we went. It was in September and we stayed at Dixielandings. My first question- what is that one called now? I don't see Dixie anywhere. Also- when is the best time to go? We really liked sept-weather was nice, waterparks were open, rides were all up. So what is everyone's take?
Thanks!

Re: Planning tentative trip- have questions
You now know the name.....when to go? We used to always go in the first week of December, right after Thanksgiving. That way, the Christmas decorations are just up, the weather is just fine and the crowds are lighter than normal.

We always go mid-october, and love it. Light crowds, still very warm (mostly 80s). If you have kids, they also have "Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party" at the Magic Kingdom starting in mid October. Have fun!

Are the water parks still open in October?

Yes they are! I think they start to close for refurb in early November, and only one at a time. I don't believe they ever close both. But they've always been open through October.

There is always 1 water park open. I have heard early December or January is the best as far as crowds are concerned. I have been in January and loved it. We also went in April which was really crowded, but still had a great time and the weather was fine too. Any time you go will be good.

Re: Planning tentative trip- have questions
We go first week of December. We have been various times over the years and have found the crowds to be light, the weather is still warm and you can't beat any Disney theme park during the Christmas season. We like to stay at the French Quarter but this year we are trying Animal Kingdom Lodge for the first time.
