    WDW Trip Report June'06

Hey kids! We're here in WDW! Yesterday, we visited AK, and rode Expedition Everest. First, the mountain looks impressive from all over the park, and fits so well with the theme. The structures around the mountain are highly detailed, and have that "well lived-in" look that the rest of the park has. The queue is HIGHLY detailed, and loaded with Yeti images, even in the architecture. The queue winds through a few buildings that represent the expedtion offices, an expedition supply store, and a museum dedicated to Yeti lore. The ride itself is very impressive, and very fast! The caves and caverns your train travels through are beautifully detailed. The ride reaches speeds of 55mph, and the scariest/freakiest part is going through a giant helix, in the dark, backwards! As for the Yeti encounter, yes, he IS very impressive, and I thought you get a really good look at him. His hand swipes what seems to be a few inches from your head. Personally, I haven't been this impressed in a Disney attraction in a while.

Yeti images are all around the queue. Some obvious, some are quite small, and hidden in the wooden carvings of the buildings.

Yeti folklore is displayed in the museum area. This is quite a large room, and the final one before you enter the load area.

A casting made of the Yeti's footprint.

Final notes: The ride has a lot of thrills along with the story. I actually got a bit queasy on the second ride. Maybe because I'm old & frail When you ride, get a Fast Pass, but go through the standby queue! It's so worth seeing it at least once. The Fast Pass queue has detailing, but it's a "Cliff Notes" version of the main queue.
