Midway Mania at MGM
Well, they put up a big refurbishment wall along Mickey Avenue at MGM, so I suppose we should actually start talking about the new ride coming to MGM.
What do we know? Work has been progressing for a while on the project. Mousesurplus stripped out Millionaire pretty quickly and the worklights have been visible behind the soundstages ever since. Prior to the refurbishment walls, the sliding glass doors which once lead to Millionaire had warning signs forbidding anyone from entering. The technology? One source says UV LED's will be used extensively. These lights are being used on the new Pirate Float which will debut in the Pirate and Princess party at the Magic Kingdom as part of the new Parade. How are they used in the ride itself? Not really sure. Another source says to look toward "Where's the Fire?" in Epcot's Innoventions West. That attraction is based on using specialized materials in multiple layers in wall panels and a light source to "reveal" hidden objects and items - sorta of like a faux X-ray. "Where's the Fire?" is cited as being the dumb-down version of technology coming to Midway. Anything else? Oh, Tokyo's Monsters Inc. ride is said to be nearly ideniticle with a slightly different theme. |
