While I'd prefer to see MK get something unique... that doesn't suck... this still makes perfect sense. Certainly more than it does in DCA. In fact, if you guys really just cared about the attraction being unique, and werent saying this stuff out of greed, you'd be lobbying for the attraction to be unique to MK. It makes no sense whatsoever at DCA.

It isnt about cheering for one park over another. It is about the 1 and only stateside Disney park that is struggling in public perception and attendance, recieving upgrades and attractions that put attention and focus on it ALONE, in order that the way might be paved for future resort growth.

But was this Little Mermaid attraction really the silver bullet that was going to grab the nation's attention and make everyone want to hop on a plane and visit DCA? I don't think it's that kind of ride and I see its purpose more as increasing the variety of attractions at the park to include a big, family-friendly dark ride and maybe drive local attendance. It's not Expedition Everest.

MK could also do with another big darkride as Fantasyland over there is relatively lacking in attractions compared to Disneyland and MK has gone without a big new attraction since Splash Mountain in 1992 (another "clone"). It also fits perfectly and would really add to the park.

DHS was struggling, just not as much as DCA. Epcot was in serious trouble after M:S failed to achieve its goals, with a surprised redemption from Soarin (no one expected it to become the resort's #1 attraction, as it had done "well" but not that well at DCA).

AK also needed something to make it a full day park, thus Everest.

Everything technically struggles in some manner and MK is the odd man out in the stateside parks for getting a new attraction.

Hence why the "DCA" name or concept may not be around for much longer.

    Hold the boat....

Back when DCA first opened, Soarin' was routinely mentioned as the one attraction worth going to the park for, with others being in the "so-so" category. Soarin' almost always has a line over 30 minutes, with it generally being above 60 during peak times. I don't see how the attraction did better on one coast or the other. If anything, they've both performed about the same.

Soarin' actually brings up an interesting point. Soarin' is a carbon copy of the attraction from DCA, sans queue line and where it's located. We're dealing with a situation very similar to what TLM would be put in. Soarin' was very successful at DCA. Using some of the rationale here, though, you'd think it wouldn't be as much of a success at Epcot because it had already existed in DCA for a while. Quite the opposite happened, though, and Epcot has a new crowd-favorite. Undeniable proof that this whole cloning thing, despite it not being our favorite way to go, still works to bring people in.

Oh noes, I've committed a sin! Or I'm just using thematic rationale.

Despite it being wildly successful, that is one example of cloning that grates on me a little. How much would it have really cost to shoot a new Soarin' Over America or Soarin' Over the World film? Instead, for no explicable reason given where it's located in The Land at Epcot, the ride focuses on one US state on the other side of the country. Whereas TLM arguably (well, not too arguably) fits better in MK than DCA, Soarin' is tailor made for DCA and should have been altered somewhat if they were cloning it elsewhere.

Hopefully if the rumours of a WDS clone come true (and how it would fit there I don't know), they'll split the budget and put a new film in both versions.
