G2D brought up the bailouts: They are quick to throw money at private sector businesses that affect some of the people's investments, so how come they have no heart to approach a solution to the problem of Social Security, where nearly everyone is invested?

    Drives me nuts.

I hear ya, Sir Cliff. Links to news reports are fine if it's to buffer the position you're trying to express in a post. But just posting link after link is tiresome at best.

EXCELLENT question! And it's not that nearly everyone is just invested. You're FORCED to invest in it.

Interesting to note that Senator Biden has critized a recent Obama Campaign Ad...

    http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonath...t.html?showall

Joe Biden offered perhaps his most off-message statement yet since being tapped as Barack Obama's running mate, saying in an interview that he thought one of his campaign's own ads was "terrible" and hadn't know about it in advance.

Asked by CBS's Katie Couric about an ad Obama released earlier this month mocking John McCain for not being able to use a computer, Biden criticized the commercial and suggested it had been aired without his knowledge.

"I thought that was terrible by the way," Biden said of the computer ad in an interview broadcast tonight on the CBS Evening News

Asked why it was aired, Biden said: "I didn't know we did it and if I had anything to do with it, we would have never done it."
The ad was stupid and dumb, and glad to see Senator Biden not being afraid to speak out about it.

From where i sit I don't see it. I don't think the Prez has a done of power to affect housing markets. Maybe congress could have regulated mortgages more...but that's a loaded issue as well. Generally I think the Prez gets alot of credit or blame for the economy and usually i think it's always overstated.

I think he holds Bush the bag on the bailouts but that's a response to the problem not the cause. Anyway, I'd be interested in what you all think. I'm by no means an expert.
The problem is the GOP loves deregulation, they were the ones pushing the deregulation of the mortage and banking industry, they also wanted to apply that same type of standards to healthcare, thank god it never happened.

This bubble is happening because these mortgage/banking companies were able to run amuk and pretty much do whatever they wanted under GOP rule for 8 years.

Republicans dont understand the economy, history shows it,they mess it up almost every single time they come to power. Im by no means an expert either but it doesnt take a genius to figure out that if you deregulate big compaanies (bascially giving them a blank check) that something will go wrong eventually.

GOP takes brunt of blame on economy, poll says

By nearly a 2-to-1 ratio, Americans blame Republicans over Democrats for the financial crisis that has swept across the country the past few weeks, a new national poll suggests. That may be contributing to better poll numbers for Sen. Barack Obama in his race for the White House against Sen. John McCain.

I agree with Joe and yourself on that one! Not sure what they were thinking putting out such an immature attack ad, particularly when you consider that there are plenty of middle aged and elderly people out there who vote and may also not be up to speed on computers and the Internet.

    Good for Biden!
too bad McCain doesnt have the character to denounce his attack ad claiming Obama wants to teach sex to kindergardeners.

Perhaps you will be able to point out some historical examples of the Republicans not understanding the economy?

Or does the name "Ronald Reagan" mean nothing to you?

I eagerly await your cited, sourced, and accurate response.
