Question Out with "maverick", "hope", and "change": Is "Historic" - the new catchphrase?

So we didn't elect a maverick, despite all the mavericky goodness that occurs when a maverick is elected to maverick over the presidency. And now reality will sink in that you can hope in one hand and take a dump in the other and see what you have more of. And change? That's just getting tired. Of course there is change: we have a new president. Duh!

So instead, we're going to have to deal with a "historic drama". Everything Obama touches or does is proclaimed to be "historic!" Once he actually abandons the self-made seal of the "Office of the President-elect" and assumes presidency, at the end of each day's episode, the Dinosaur Media will remind us our Dear Leader is a genius. Like the sands through an hourglass...

Obama's being elected can't be too historically significant; he's only our second black president. At least if you ask Bill Clinton.

I have a feeling that the next four years are going to be like a weird hybrid of Gilligan's Island and the Twilight Zone. Each day we will be told we are delivered and saved again, yet we wake up the next morning still stuck on the island ...and so are the days of our lives.

I think what you're seeing now in the media is a something of a hangover from 2 years of binging on election coverage and what was an historic election victory. The media still seems to be trying to find an angle, and I think this comes out most strongly on the conservative side as Fox seems to still be playing the fear angle while a lot of soul searching goes on about where the Republicans go from here and who, after 8 years of a Bush presidency that have endied in record low approval ratings, will now be the standard-bearer for the party. They need to see what Obama does before they can really formulate a response which is logical, I guess. CNN and others seem more fixated on intrigue surrounding the Clinton pick and who the other cabinet picks might be.

Once he assumes office and, as you say, reality sets it, I think things will settle down and new narratives will be established on all sides. A lot will depends on what happens with the economy and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan so it's hard to say what it will be. I don't think we'll keep hearing about how "historic" everything is once Obama becomes acting president and I also doubt the campaign themes are going to live on much longer.

Actually, a lot of liberals are starting to ask themselves if "change" is really what's coming.
Have you seen the people being selected for cabinet posts? They're all Clinton people! Including Hillary!

Not all, so far only two and possibly a third with Hillary.

Rahm for example was a junior advisor under Clinton. But he knows/ins outs of Washington and can deal with Congress. Good fit IMO.

The guy is putting people he doesn't LIKE in these spots. THAT is amazing! He KNOWS they hold some serious merit, and is putting faith/trust into them. I think it is great.

I could be proved wrong...if I am, I'll admit it.

^But is putting people you don't like on your cabinet a recipe for disaster? We'll have to wait and see...
