If Gallup is to be believed, Obama's approval rating is still dropping.
And yet they do a great job of still managing to spin it...

He's still got over half. That's good. I guess Republicans like him. Care to comment, majiku?

The approval ratings continue to slip. It's almost like watching gas prices!

Support for Congressional Republicans also pulled ahead of support for Congressional Democrats by a few percentage points. Not by much... all of these statistics are making small, but noticeable baby-steps.I'm no pollster, but I think the public is beginning to see how silly it was to vote simply to spite Bush! Bush wasn't going to be president anymore, all along the way people had the chance to choose who would BEST do the job, but instead tried to over-correct the problem. Smart. Obama still has 1401 days left of his term, it'll be interesting to watch. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 41% said they would vote for their district’s Republican candidate while 39% would choose the Democrat.
In other news, CNN fell to 4th in the ratings: behind Fox, MSNBC (!), and their own Headline News."I like maxims that don't encourage behavior modification."

I know that´s the standard Rasmussen used to come up with their ¨approval index¨, but taking those at the extreme ends of the spectrum seems to distort the picture significantly to me. If you look at his overall favourability ratings, they have slipped somewhat but the gap between those who approve and those who disapprove of his performance are still in the 30-40% range. That is a drop, but of course his approval rating will drop even further given the combination of the high expectations surrounding his presidency and a likely prolonged global economic crisis that no-one seems to know what to do about. What is perhaps more important is whether people start to think the Republicans are a better option, which the numbers you quote suggest might end up happening if trends continue.

Obama has reached his highest level of strong disapproval ratings, and the difference between strong disapproval and strong approval has now officially converged.
Overall, 54% of voters approve and 46% disapprove."I like maxims that don't encourage behavior modification."

The economy seems to have reached a valley where it will probably struggle upward for the time being. Unemployment lags behind, so that when the economy starts getting better, workers don't feel it for a period of time before companies start hiring again, start promoting again, start giving raises again. There may be a general feeling of, "What's going on? Nothing is happening," when in fact the gears of the economy are starting to move again.
I'm not surprised that his approval ratings are going down. When the economy picks up steam again they may go back up.

Just to be smashed down again by the inflation tsunami heading our way. Interest rates have already gone up.

What I didn't get was why Obama used to have a large Approval rating, yet most Americans felt that America was "on the wrong track". Are we just sobering from the Obama post-election bliss?
