Thumbs up Public still sky high on Obama 'brand'-GOP still struggling.

Obama’s approval rating remains well above 60 percent in tracking polls. A range of state pollsters said they’d seen no diminution in the president’s sky-high approval ratings, and no improvement in congressional Republicans’ dismal numbers

Just found the article interesting,if you dont see a point then move on. However I find it interesting to see where the American public stands after the dust on the stimulus bill settled. The battle is over and it appears (for now) that Team Obama won, they got thier bill and public approval is still sky high.

    that's not surprising,

Obama is who everyone elected just a few months ago. He's only been in office a month

I wonder if the numbers for congressional dems are getting better? That would be a more telling stat. Congresses numbers were below Bush's last year.

Also from the article I found this quote interesting

“What’s regrettable is that Republicans are being cast as the partisans as a way to deflect attention away from Congressional Democrats’ failure to craft an effective — and bipartisan — economic stimulus bill,” said a spokeswoman for House Minority Leader John A. Boehner. This is an excellent point and one that generally was missed by the media

But we don’t control anything in Washington, so using us as a political whipping boy is laughable. At some point, the American people will expect the results and action rather than blame and deflection. Only time will tell when their patience will run thin.Boehner is exactly right with this as well. If the economy isn't getting better than you'll see Obama's numbers drop and congresses drop even lower. Obama knows he has to act fast, not just for the economy but for his political future. In reality he has 2 years to hit bottom and then a year to start getting better. I think things will turn around by then and he'll be elected another 4 years.

Since you asked, heres the numbers for congress by party:

just over half of Americans (51%) disapprove of the job Republican leaders in Congress are doing, while barely a third (34%) approve. This is almost identical to the public’s rating of Republicans in Congress on the eve of the 2006 midterm election in which the GOP lost their majorities in both the House and the Senate. In October 2006, 33% approved and 56% disapproved of their performance.
more Americans approve (48%) than disapprove (38%) of the job Democratic leaders in Congress are doing. This represents a substantial improvement from last summer, when just 31% approved and 58% disapproved of their performance. The jump in approval comes mostly from Democrats. Today 76% of Democrats like the job their party’s leaders in Congress are doing, up from 53% in August 2008.

It's more that these articles are posted without any commentary. What's the point? At least post your own views instead of turning this forum into a link repository.

Like I said, I posted the link because I thought it would be interesting to debate how public perception for both parties is after the stimulus battle. If you dont care to partake in the discussion,no biggie

It sort-of helps that there is a discussion to begin with. We're all capable of posting links, but the point of this discussion forum is to (in the words of Spaceship Earth) "question, learn, explore, and understand."

At any rate, it's too soon to tell anything meaningful of how the public feels about the stimulus since it hasn't done anything yet. I'm not going to be surprised when it bombs out and we have a trillion dollar debt on our hands that is just exacerbating the problem. We need to undertake the problem of digging ourselves out of this financial mess, not deepening it.

Hey Nemo, I have already talked to some people and they already regret voting for Obama.

I foresee a huge collapse in support when it becomes apparent that these nuts have no more idea what to do than Bush and friends did. The American people bought a slick marketing message and elected someone with a half page resume who is determined to make this thing worse. He calls Republicans hypocritical for criticizing his over the top spending while silently allowing Bush to spend us into a $9 trillon debt...so why does he think it will work for him? If spending trillions made us worse off, why would it magically help now?

If it wasn't real, it'd be the stuff of Saturday Night Live sketches. It's INANE and it defies all common sense and reason.

So people say, well they've got to do SOMETHING. That is not an argument. That's fear talking. And if they're going to do something, they should do something that would save us money. Like leave Iraq.
