  • Utilize FastPass for a shorter wait.
  • Pass time in line by decoding the hieroglyphics on the walls with a decoder card. See the Extras section to download and print.
  • At one point, the queue reaches a flight of stairs and forks into two separate lines. Unless one flight of stairs is roped off at the base, head for the shorter side even if you don’t see anybody up the stairs. Often times, people hesitate and simply stay behind the person in front of them making for a shorter queue on the other side. You might end up passing more than a full jeep-load of people in line! If both sides are equal, take the left fork, it’s a bit shorter. Just be sure to keep your entire party together!

Fun Facts

  • This attraction opened on March 3, 1995.
  • This attraction can only be found at Disneyland in California.
  • The Indiana Jones Adventure was designed before the actual technology was developed to make the ride possible. A new type of attraction vehicle, the Enhanced Motion Vehicle (EMV), was designed to make it feel as though you are going up and down stairs and over rough terrain even though you actually are traveling on smooth terrain. The motion is achieved by hydraulic actuators within the vehicle.
  • This attraction was the third time that Walt Disney Imagineering and George Lucas teamed up for a major attraction at the Disneyland Resort. The first was in the mid-80s for the Star Tours attraction based off of the Star Wars franchise, with the second being the Michael Jackson 3D-movie, Captain EO.
  • The total cost for this attraction was over 40 million dollars!
  • The original sponsor of the attraction was AT&T.
  • By far one of the most detailed queues in a Disney theme park, the Indiana Jones Adventure queue took longer to complete than the ride itself and even required the nearby Jungle Cruise to close to make room for the new queue.
  • When you first enter the Projection Room, look up and you might catch a glimpse of an Eeyore sign. It is a parking sign from the Eeyore section of the parking lot that was taken over to build the Indiana Jones Adventure. If you can't find it, ask a nearby Cast Member and they'd be happy to point it out for you!
  • After exiting the Projection Room, check out Indiana Jones’ office for a 1939 Life magazine with Mickey Mouse on the cover as well as several other artifacts from the Indiana Jones films including a box to ship to Obi-Wan.
  • Early concepts for this attraction included the jeep-ride we know today but also included an alternate mine roller coaster attraction that would have wound around inside the temple. The Jungle Cruise and Disneyland Railroad were also supposed to enter parts of the temple as well creating for one rather large, immersive experience!
  • This attraction is the second most expensive attraction to maintain at the Disneyland Resort.[1]

Attraction Details

This is one of six attractions in Disneyland that travel outside of the train track perimeter of the park. In order to do this, Imagineers needed to figure out a way to get guests over or under the train track that circles the park. The other five attractions are the Disneyland Monorail, Haunted Mansion, it’s a small world, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Splash Mountain. For Indiana Jones Adventure, the mysterious caverns and corridors of the temple distract from the fact that you are walking under the train tracks to walk to the loading station outside of the park’s perimeter!

The queue of the attraction wanders through the ancient temple of Mara. Hieroglyphs on the wall have been decoded into a text called Marabic. Print out the decoder card below and take it with you to decipher the messages on the walls to help pass time while you wait in line.

This patrol truck in the queue is one that was actually used in 1981’s Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arc.[2]

On your way out of the ride, be on the lookout for this mine-cart, it was one that was actually used in 1984's Indiana Jones and Temple of Doom.
