Lunar New Year lands at Universal Studios Hollywood with bigger-than-ever celebration

Universal Studios Hollywood has brought back its popular Lunar New Year Celebration, this time welcoming DreamWorks Animation characters into the Universal family. As in previous years, Universal Plaza is decked out in beautiful Asian finery, while also playing host to several character meet-n-greet opportunities. Making their Universal Parks & Resorts debut, Po and Tigress from the KUNG FU PANDA series join returning favorites Curious George, Woody Woodpecker and Mandarin-speaking Megatron.

Lunar New Year Celebration is only at Universal Studios Hollywood for a limited time! Make sure to visit before it ends on February 5, 2017.

The park is more popular than ever with the addition of THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER. We visited on weekday with mostly low wait times, but the new WALKING DEAD walkthrough experience still commanded long waits.

The big stars of this year’s celebration were a blast to meet and appear throughout the day, with times posted at the location. We recommend going in for a Po hug, and Tigress greets guests with a respectful bow.

This delightful detail made us squee – it’s the lantern Po and his dad, Mr. Ping, decorated together in the adorable Kung Fu Panda Holiday special. It hangs just over where Po and Tigress greet guests.

Guests can write and hang their wishes throughout the Plaza. As you can see, Curious George and whoever Emily is have very specific wishes.

Megatron speaks Mandarin only when appearing at the Lunar New Year Celebration.

Woody looks great in his special celebratory costume, and the floral arch makes a beautiful centerpiece.

We explored the rest of the park as well, but couldn’t resist this shot of Chief Wiggum trying to fit into this group of tourists.

Bye for now! See you at Universal Studios Hollywood!

The Lunar New Year celebration at Universal Studios Hollywood lasts from January 21 to February 5.
