DISNEY AT THE 2018 OSCARS: ‘Coco’ wins BIG, bringing home Disney’s only Awards!

COCO WINS THE NIGHT! Disney was up for 10 awards at the 90th Annual Academy Awards this year and Disney-Pixar’s COCO took home BOTH of the awards in which it was nominated including ANIMATED FEATURE and ORIGINAL SONG; Disney’s only two awards for the night!

After winning ANIMATED FEATURE, director Lee Unkrich gave a brief but beautiful speech thanking the people of Mexico and a nod that all children should have heroes to look towards in movies and media. REPRESENTATION MATTERS was certainly the theme of the night for this year’s show!

Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez also accepted an award for ORIGINAL SONG for the beautiful “Remember Me.” The song was performed on the Oscars stage which you can watch below!

All the magic wasn’t just during the awards but also some during the commercials! Disney took advantage of all the eyeballs on ABC to debut a teaser trailer for MARY POPPINS RETURNS.

Disney had 10 nominations this year, awards they missed out this year included Costume Design (Beauty and the Beast—Jacqueline Durran), Original Score (Star Wars: The Last Jedi—John Williams), Production Design (Beauty and the Beast—Production Design: Sarah Greenwood; Set Decoration: Katie Spencer), Sound Editing (Star Wars: The Last Jedi—Ren Klyce, Matthew Wood), Sound Mixing (Star Wars: The Last Jedi—David Parker, Michael Semanick, Ren Klyce and Stuart Wilson), Visual Effects (Star Wars: The Last Jedi—Ben Morris, Mike Mulholland, Neal Scanlan and Chris Corbould AND Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2—Christopher Townsend, Guy Williams, Jonathan Fawkner and Dan Sudick), and Short Film (Animated) (Disney•Pixar’s Lou).

Last year, Disney took home four Academy Awards for ZOOTOPIA, “Piper”, THE JUNGLE BOOK, and OJ: MADE IN AMERICA.
