FIRST TASTE: New food options make things tasty and bright for the 2018 Disney Holidays!

The holidays are a time of joy, merriment… and FOOD. This weekend, we hit the Disneyland Resort to get our first taste of the new offerings at the Disneyland Resort.

Rather than hit up the FESTIVAL OF HOLIDAYS which seemingly has a lot of carryover from previous years, we decided to taste our way around the parks for the non Festival food items. We found an interesting batch of flavors that add some variety to the typical peppermint gingerbread fare.

We’ll share more as the season progresses but for now, enjoy our first taste of the 2018 Disney Holidays!

What We Tasted

Lamb Kofta

RATING: ❄❄❄❄❄

Lamb Kofta ($9.49) from the Bengal Barbecue features an aromatic lamb with tzatziki sauce, spinach, and pickled onions on grilled pita bread. This dish debuted last year for Halloween Time and we found it to be completely mediocre but man oh man did the meat seem to get a big upgrade this year. The meat was tender and juicy. The spices perfectly blended. The pickled veggies a crunchy sharp contrast. Everything worked together and made this our favorite thing we tried all day!

Plant-etarium Street Tacos

RATING: ❄❄❄❄❄

Plant-etarium Street Tacos ($7.99) at the Studio Catering Co. feature brussels sprouts, salsa verde, pickled red onions, and apple and pomegranate slaw. Holy smokes was this thing phenomenal! There’s no meat but the caramelized sprouts somehow come together to make an incredible base upon which the delightfully tangy apple and pomegranate slaw sit. This dish is STELLAR and absolutely worth a try. It basically ranks are as OTHER favorite thing we tried all day. It’s too good to pass up!

Chile Relleno

RATING: ❄❄❄⚫⚫

Chile Relleno ($12.99) at Rancho Del Zocalo features red AND green sauce topped with queso fresco and crema; served with rice, ranchero beans, and pickled vegetables. This was a delightfully delicious dish although it comes with a single chile that is on the small side. It’s very tasty but you don’t get a lot of bang for your buck.

Philly Cheesesteak Hot Dog

RATING: ❄❄⚫⚫⚫

Philly Cheesesteak Hot Dog ($9.79) at Refreshment Corner features a premium hot dog with sliced roast beef, peppers, onions, and cheese sauce. It’s not bad but socks remained firmly on our feet and were not knocked off. The meat on top is not great but all the other elements come together pretty nicely. Also, there’s not nearly enough of any of the toppings to even have the audacity to call this a Philly Cheesesteak.

Space Dip Pizza

RATING: ❄❄❄⚫⚫

Space Dip Pizza ($8.99/slice or $41.99/whole) at Alien Pizza Planet with spinach and artichoke dip, chicken, capicola, and assorted cheeses. It’s not worth a special voyage over to Tomorrowland but it’s a solid option if you’re looking something more than just pepperoni.

Green Alien Holiday Macaron

RATING: ❄❄❄❄❄

Green Alien Holiday Macaron ($5.99) at Alien Pizza Planet is the same one that debuted for Pixar Fest but has the addition of white chocolate candy cane and ear hat. It’s still same blueberry AND lemon filling and it’s still super tasty.

Dessert Nachos

RATING: ❄❄❄❄❄

Dessert Nachos ($7.99) at Rancho Del Zocalo feature their signature cinnamon crisps topped with apple filling, vanilla sauce, cajeta caramel, and whipped cream. This is exactly what you’re expecting with a great combination of flavors. The cajeta is so good here. Ours was mysteriously absent of any apple filling. =(

Gingerbread Churro

RATING: ❄❄❄❄⚫

Gingerbread Churro ($5.25) at Churros near Sleeping Beauty Castle is a basic simple twist to the classic dessert. Taste of simple holiday magic. Can’t say we were blown away but it’s a really nice variation on the classic Disney Parks treat.

Oooooh! This little guy is $20 but NOT refillable, unfortunately. It does come with popcorn when you first purchase it.

The pink drink on the left is the Sleigh Ride ($17) from Carthay Circle features Bombay Sapphire, St. Germaine, Lillet Blanc, lemon juice, cherry bitters and Crème de Yvette garnished with a lavender sprig. Ours was missing the lavender. The snowflake has the Carthay Circle logo on it and it lights up.

If you want the snowflake without the Sleigh Ride cocktail, you can subsitute the Sleigh Ride cocktail with any non-alcoholic beverage of your choice, you still have to pay the full $17 price tag.
