Although the ride only just opened this summer, Disney is already aiming at keeping the attraction fun and relevant with the confirmation of the newly announced Halloween Time layover: Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark!

Details are scant at this point but the layover will debut this year as part of Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort but it will only come alive at night. Here’s official announcement from Disney:

Rocket needs your help to #SaveGroot at Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark — part of the expansion of Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort to Disney California Adventure park!

As guests enter the Lobby of the Fortress, they may be startled by flashing alarms and creepy sounds – warning signs that creatures have escaped their vitrine cages and all kinds of chaos is erupting. The Collector’s ever-resourceful assistant Apheta tries to keep calm by reassuring guests that all is in order, and this is just a momentary setback.

Your adventure picks up moments after the events of the popular Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction. The Guardians have successfully escaped The Collector’s Fortress, but they have accidentally left Groot behind! Rocket enlists you to distract the creatures that have been released so he can find and rescue his little buddy.

The attraction transforms from Mission: BREAKOUT! to Monsters After Dark each evening. The Collector’s Fortress goes dark, alarms sound and all-new lighting on the exterior of the Fortress alerts guests that something inside has gone awry. Music continues to be at the heart of the experience, and an all-new song, “Monsters After Dark,” was created especially for this attraction by Tyler Bates, composer of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films.

“The Monsters After Dark story hinges on irreverence, on top of the irreverence that’s already in the attraction,” said Joe Rohde, creative executive for Walt Disney Imagineering. “It’s creepy, chaotic and very funny.”
