#SDCC: ‘Ducktales’ lights up Comic-Con with surprise guests and AMAZING announcements

IMG_20190719_202431It still feels slightly surreal to say that Ducktales is getting another season and yet here we are another year at San Diego Comic-Con with just a few things on our minds: racecars, lasers, and aeroplanes!

Proving once again to be a highlight of the entire Con, we were treated by Disney Channel to another fantastic panel for the show that included sneaks of whats to come and just a good time overall with the zany crew assembled for this animated series.

Variety senior editor Michael Schneider moderated the fantastic panel which included Executive Producer Matt Youngberg, co-executive producer Francisco Angones, and series stars Ben Schwartz (Parks and Rec, House of Lies), Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live, Star Wars Resistance, We Bare Bears), Kate Micucci (Garfunkel and Oates, Don’t Think Twice), Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds, Harvey Birdman) and surprise guest Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Some of the announcements nearly blew the roof off the convention center with fans going nuts for sneak peeks, primarily in the form of teases for upcoming characters in the new season…

  • Darkwing Duck we already knew but now also Goslyn and Taurus Bulba!
  • Rescue Rangers, all of them. Chip, Dale, Gadget, Zipper, and Monty!
  • Tale Spin!! We saw Kit and Molly
  • Wuzzles. YES, WUZZLES.
  • Daisy Duck, looking fierce as ever
  • Goofy in his Spoonerville best which means Max and Powerline will definitely be in-universe!
  • Genie from the original DuckTales movie
  • Even Santa… we’ll find out more about why Scrooge doesn’t like him.
  • And then a funsies QUACK PACK reference

Rocketeer First Look!

The panel also gave us our first look at the upcoming Disney Junior ROCKETEER! Some details courtesy of D23:

Billy Campbell, who starred in the live-action film as Cliff Secord, is joining the cast of the animated series. Campbell will play Dave Secord, father of Kit Secord, who learns she’s secretly next in line to become The Rocketeer, a rocket-pack-wearing superhero who can fly… Kathy Najimy (Hocus Pocus) will voice Kit’s mother, Sareena Secord. Additionally, Kitana Turnbull (A Series of Unfortunate Events) stars as Kit, the young girl who takes on the mantle of the legendary superhero.

Fans can look forward to a host of recurring comedic villains, including Maria Bamford (Arrested Development) and Kari Wahlgren (DC Superhero Girls) as sister team, Laura and Harley; Maurice LaMarche (Futurama) as Sylvester Slapdash; Charlie Adler (The Transformers franchise) and Parvesh Cheena (Disney Junior’s upcoming Mira, Royal Detective) as The Great Orsino and Deany, respectively; and celebrity chef Ted Allen (Chopped) as Cast-Iron Chef.

As Kit takes to the skies with her new gear (and her secret identity) to protect her town of Hughesville and its residents from danger, she’ll be aided by her best friend, Tesh (voiced by Callan Farris of Disney Channel’s upcoming Gabby Duran & The Unsittables); her bulldog sidekick, Butch; and her airplane mechanic grandfather, Ambrose Secord. It was revealed today that legendary voice actor Frank Welker (Scooby-Doo) will lend his voice to both Grandpa Ambrose and Butch. Navia Robinson (Disney Channel’s Raven’s Home) voices Kit’s flight school classmate, Valerie Valkyrie.
