#D23Expo: Disney Parks confirm Marvel with Avengers E-ticket, Spider-Man details, and more
Last Thursday, we got our D23 Expo first peek at the new AVENGERS CAMPUS coming to both Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris then on Sunday we got a whole bunch more details about the future of Disney Parks. It’s so much to process that we’re breaking it all out for you here.
Grab your backpacks and join us on this early visit to the AVENGERS CAMPUS which is set to debut first at Disney California Adventure in 2020!
Two Unique Campuses
Both Disney California Adventure and Walt Disney Studios Park will be getting their own AVENGERS CAMPUS but unlike Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (which exists at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World) the lands are not intended to be identical recreations of the exact same place. Instead, the two campuses are different outposts setup by the Avengers.
“In some ways, these new campuses are like the Avengers themselves: a group of diverse individuals who have teamed up for the same purpose. This collection of unique addresses—each dedicated to a different discipline—have been brought together to champion the next generation of heroes.
–Scot Drake, Creative Executive, Marvel Global Portfolio, Walt Disney Imagineering
While the Centralized Assembly Mobilized to Prepare Unique and Safeguard Initiative (or C.A.M.P.U.S. Initiative) brings unique campuses that are separate and unique from each other, they will share similar elements including the upcoming Spider-Man attraction.
The Worldwide Engineering Brigade, which we learned earlier this year is also known as “WEB” will be found on both campuses. It be the first Disney Parks ride-through attraction to feature this iconic hero.
You enter the facilities to find open house of WEB in progress. The aspiring inventors here are excited to invite you for a test drive of their latest invention: the “Web Slinger” vehicle which allows you to sling webs just like Spider-Man. The attraction gives you a taste of what it’s like to have actual super powers as you help Spider-Man collect Spider-Bots that have run amok.
These developmental new Spider-Bots can prove buggy, they may end up causing more trouble than good in the new attraction.
Spider-Man’s New Suit
We got our first look at his new suit, designed by Head of Visual Development at Marvel Studios, Ryan Meinerding.
Pym Test Kitchen
If you’re hungry, head to Pym Test Kitchen. Just as Ant-Man and The Wasp use “Pym Particles” to grow and shrink just about anything, Pym Technologies is using the latest innovations to grow and shrink food at this eatery! It seems likely that this will appear on campuses in California and Paris.
You will also find several Marvel characters to meet throughout the campus, including…
- Black Widow
- The Wasp
- Doctor Strange
- Guardians of the Galaxy (Star Lord, Gamora and Groot)
- Black Panther (and the Dora Milaje)
- Thor and Loki
- Iron Man
Details were sparse about an interactive new area within the ruins of a California Sanctum where guests will encounter Doctor Strange. The new show and/or meet and greet area should prove to have some mystical qualities to it. It sounds like a similar experience will also be coming to Paris.
Phase 2, E-Ticket
Another unique element for California is that this campus will serve as a new main Headquarters for the Avengers and as such a unique building will exist here that will house a unique E-ticket attraction.
This new HQ building — which will open in phase two — will become the future entrance for an adventure that see you you step on board a Quinjet and fly alongside the Avengers in an epic adventure to Wakanda and beyond. You will team up alongside the Avengers in a battle to save our world against one of the most powerful villains they have ever faced. Imagineers are hard at work conceiving an all-new innovative ride system to put you in the middle of this action.
Shown above is a Model A61-6902 Quinjet which we can assume will be used in the upcoming adventure.
Although we don’t have confirmation, it seems the below concept art is for the Paris AVENGERS CAMPUS as the imagery does not seem to line up with the map we have above for the California campus.
Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel
At Disneyland Paris, you can extend your adventures at Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel, opening next summer. The hotel will celebrate 80 years of Marvel art and artists, with more than 300 curated works of art on display. Rooms will include one-of-a-kind themed suites featuring favorite Super Heroes like Spider-Man, and you can even meet these legends in a dedicated space.
